KDevelop

Very nice development package, and fast. I used to use it extensively
for Java, C, C++, and Perl. Would still use it if appropriate but have
largely moved on to other development packages for reasons other than
function.

NetBeans

From Sun. The new versions work much better and I have started using it again for some things.

Eclipse

Very large development package that can be a little painful to install, but works well once in place.  I've used it heavily for several projects and it holds up well.

Items marked with (nyt) indicate I have not yet tested it. I've heard
it's good (so it has made it on the list) but have not yet tested it
myself.

Apache Web Server

Also called httpd. This is the de-facto web server these days. Note that "apache" refers to the apache foundation now. The apache foundation manages a large number of other open-source projects like "apache tomcat" (a servlet engine).
